Blanket Madness

In my last post, i showed the current progress of a few different blanket that i have started to make. One of these blankets was the squircle granny patchwork blanket, which was originally going to be a full size queen bedspread, which decided it wanted to be a small single bed/sofa sized throw. ( It was the blanket who decided that not my brain which was getting bored of making squircle squares, i promise ðŸ˜‰)

Being only 90 squares in total. I was left with a heap of leftover yarn, which saw me hooking (totally legit crochet term) a new blanket just 5 days ago, which will be another single bed sized blanket, in all it's stripey blanket goodness.
It is a wonderfully simple pattern, only consisting of double crochet (UK treble) no chaining at all after the initial starting chain, thanks to the chainless standing starting double crochet, which i learnt from a wonderful tutorial from Tamara over at Moogly. As you can see from the photograph, it is quite a wide blanket, and will be a tad bit wider when finished due to adding a border, which I've not settled on yet, but may just do a simple linen stitch or granny cluster border. Inspiration for both these blankets. comes from the ever colourful Lucy at Attic24

Next comes the ever growing, long time project, mitred square, memory blanket made with sock yarn scraps. I have added over 30 squares to this blanket so far this year, it has been an ongoing project that i started 2 years ago. A lot of the scraps of yarn for this blanket have come from friends, and a few from thrift store finds. each little square is knit with a memory of friendship, love and kindness, and a tad bit of insanity. It is a little bit narrower than the two crochet blankets above, but again, it will have a border when completed, and be a wonderfully warm little lap blanket or baby blanket.

Another long term project, started mid last year, is my scrapghan granny rug, made with various scraps of DK, Aran and Worsted weight yarns, as i have been working on other crochet projects, the little scraps that are not enough for anything else, but too much to just simple throw out, get added to this messy, but wonderful blanket, that is growing steadily and will be a great throw to snuggle under on the sofa come winter.

The small granny rug i started using the colour pooling yarn, has been left to the wayside as i complete these more colourful blankets, but i will definitely be completing a blanket with that yarn in the near future as it is so wonderfully soft and warm and i have enough of it to create a small throw.
