Summers End

As summer draws to an end here in the Southern Hemisphere, Southern Australia was hit with a decent heatwave, which left me feeling sluggish and all together lazy. I spent my days lounging on my bed, with the blinds drawn closed to keep the heat of the sun out of the room. In the mornings and evenings I have gotten some more work done on the random stripey blanket.

The blanket, as can be seen to the left, looks delightfully delicious when folded and rolled up to show off all the wonderful colours, though since this photo was taken I have added a few more stripes of colourful squishiness, making the blanket a little longer than it is wider so far! (120cm/4ft wide x 130cm/4.2ft long)

In between the blanket making and lounging around I have queued up a few little projects on Ravelry I wish to make in the near future, most of which are Easter related, little bunnies, eggs and other cute animals.

Over the next few weeks I will be kept busy with medical appointments, work related appointments, and social outings, but I will continue to crochet and knit as I always do.

Blanket Madness

In my last post, i showed the current progress of a few different blanket that i have started to make. One of these blankets was the squircle granny patchwork blanket, which was originally going to be a full size queen bedspread, which decided it wanted to be a small single bed/sofa sized throw. ( It was the blanket who decided that not my brain which was getting bored of making squircle squares, i promise ðŸ˜‰)

Being only 90 squares in total. I was left with a heap of leftover yarn, which saw me hooking (totally legit crochet term) a new blanket just 5 days ago, which will be another single bed sized blanket, in all it's stripey blanket goodness.
It is a wonderfully simple pattern, only consisting of double crochet (UK treble) no chaining at all after the initial starting chain, thanks to the chainless standing starting double crochet, which i learnt from a wonderful tutorial from Tamara over at Moogly. As you can see from the photograph, it is quite a wide blanket, and will be a tad bit wider when finished due to adding a border, which I've not settled on yet, but may just do a simple linen stitch or granny cluster border. Inspiration for both these blankets. comes from the ever colourful Lucy at Attic24

Next comes the ever growing, long time project, mitred square, memory blanket made with sock yarn scraps. I have added over 30 squares to this blanket so far this year, it has been an ongoing project that i started 2 years ago. A lot of the scraps of yarn for this blanket have come from friends, and a few from thrift store finds. each little square is knit with a memory of friendship, love and kindness, and a tad bit of insanity. It is a little bit narrower than the two crochet blankets above, but again, it will have a border when completed, and be a wonderfully warm little lap blanket or baby blanket.

Another long term project, started mid last year, is my scrapghan granny rug, made with various scraps of DK, Aran and Worsted weight yarns, as i have been working on other crochet projects, the little scraps that are not enough for anything else, but too much to just simple throw out, get added to this messy, but wonderful blanket, that is growing steadily and will be a great throw to snuggle under on the sofa come winter.

The small granny rug i started using the colour pooling yarn, has been left to the wayside as i complete these more colourful blankets, but i will definitely be completing a blanket with that yarn in the near future as it is so wonderfully soft and warm and i have enough of it to create a small throw.

Start of a new year.

Welcome everyone to 2019. After an eventful 2018, i am hoping that 2019 is a little less chaotic and hope to get more done this year.

4 days into the year and so far;

I've knit 2ft of an infinity scarf for my mother using some yarn she picked up cheaply from factory seconds bags last week.

I've made more squares for my large double/queen sized blanket, bringing me to a total of 84 squares out of a total of 196 needed.
New Years Eve morning, saw me in the city at the craft store, spending a gift card i had, before the sale ended. I scored 6 more cakes of yarn to add to the blanket, for the price i would normally only get 4. which are now all wound into individual colour balls to add to the blanket. Which as can be seen below, i have broken down the 3x3 panels i had joined up, to mix the new, and any future colours in so that it blends nicely.

I've added a few more rounds to the scrapghan granny blanket using odds and ends of yarn from making smaller squares for the above blanket.

I have also started a new blanket, using colour pooling yarn, that refuses to pool correctly so, it is going to be solid granny square as the yarn refuses to behave.

In General, i've had a very productive, and crafty start to the New Year

End of Year

Granny Square scrapghan,
being watched over by our lovely cat, Vegemite.
I must apologize again for a long absence between posts, life is always pretty hectic this time of year, but this year, doubly so.

At the end of October, my fiance and I moved from the upstairs apartment we were living in, as it wasn't viable with my pain, and now having to use a wheelchair to get around on bad days, and using a walking stick most days just to walk. We were offered a little 3 bed cottage with water views, that turned out to be a horrid deathtrap. So only a week after signing on at the new house, we left, leaving us homeless with no money, we were left with no other choice but to go home to our parents houses. Living apart again has been hard, but it is allowing us to slowly pay off bills that had accumulated with the moves and to save some money to move again, hopefully before Easter next year.

I have, however, still kept crafting, and working on crochet blankets (as seen above and to the right), Christmas crafts and baking, and have even started designing a new crochet baby cardigan that i hope to release early in the New Year.

Sorry again for the absence, i'm not very good at this whole blogging thing yet. I've been very busy the past 2 weeks  after enrolling in a 12 month Business Administration qualification. 13 Modules to complete in 12 months so that i can hopefully gain some paid employment towards the end of next year to help save up for something BIG, and by big i mean HUGE!

My Wedding!!

That's right, on the 24th of August my boyfriend, now fiance proposed to me! Stress levels are going to be high over the coming months, but with the support of my fiance, i will make it through :D

Busy Busy

Assorted dresses, cardigans and singlet/vests
More cardigans, a skirt, and a few adult accessories
Hello everyone! So sorry for the long absence. I have been super busy getting things ready for the upcoming market, and a whole slough of doctors appointment and blood tests this past 10 days. We also had a bit of an internet hiccup at our address, having to change ISP's so were without reliable internet for a little under a week while that was sorted. But all that done, i am back again.

In the photographs dotted throughout the post you can see items that I've been rounding up ready to sell on September 2nd at the market here. Mostly baby clothes there are a few adult accessories that i have to sell as well, namely finger less gloves and scarves as we come to the end of winter here in Australia.

Beanies and Booties

I also have other bits and pieces not pictured here that i am going to be selling as well.

To top it all off, i am re-enrolling in TAFE (Technical And Further Education) to continue my studies in Business Administration this year so it is going to be extremely hectic and stressful as we go into the market season but i look forward to it all!

Cross Stitch

Back at the wee age of 8, I learnt the wonderful craft of cross stitch from my second grade teacher as we made little wall hangings for mothers day. On and off for the last 2 decades i have continued to dabble into the craft, but have lately really wanted to get back into it. On Friday at my fortnightly meetup with wonderful knitty and crochet friends, i went back for coffee with one of them, and after mentioning that i want to get back into cross stitch at our small detour via Spotlight, she said she had some Aida cloth and a small hoop i could have.

Partly done sign,
which will be framed and stood on a table when complete
After having a coffee, back at her house, she dug out a big box of needle point supplies and went digging. She gave me a wonderfully large piece of 11 count fabric, and another of 18 count, and a few other goodies, before my wonderful partner collected me between errands.
So Saturday morning, i dug out my embroidery thread, got designing, and made up a basic look for a sign that i will use when attending markets.

Crafty Corner Designs

The name Crafty Corner Designs, where did it come from you may wonder, well the answer is fairly simple. When I first began my foray into knitting and crochet, 9 years ago, I was living with my parents and had only a corner in my bedroom for my craft area, thus the Crafty Corner was born, as I became more confident with my crafting skills and began designing little patterns of my own, I added the ‘Designs” part of the name, and it has stuck ever since.

Though no longer confined to just a corner, I have my own cosy little room with plenty of space and storage for my crafting supplies and enough room to expand to a new hobby of sewing in the not to distant future.

Most of my crochet and knitting that I do involves; small lap blankets and baby blankets, baby clothes, beanies, gloves, soft toys, and home decor items. I hope to start marketing these items soon at a local, monthly market located just a few hundred meters from the house I share with my wonderful and ever suffering partner and our little house panther (black cat) Vegemite.

I hope you all have a wonderful day, in whatever little corner of the world you may reside and I thank you for starting this new blogging journey with me.

Welcome!

Welcome to my little slice of blogger paradise!

I am an avid fibre artist, with skills in knitting, crochet, and a little bit of sewing and needlepoint. My aim in this blog is to post my ramblings from my over active creative brain and keep people updated on what I am up to when nestled up in my cosy little craft room.

Ocassionaly I may also post about my medical condition, fibromyalgia, as it can sometimes prevent me from doing the hobbies I so love to do, but for now only craftiness shall infest the post of this blog.
